Mitsubishi continued to develop its contender (MPR12) for the 2006 edition team repsol Mitsubishi ralliart prepared four pajero / Montero evolution super productions for a formidable driving team composed of two back-to-back winners in the persons of hiroshi masuoka and stephane peterchansel ,strongly supported by luc alphand and john (nani) roma.

The MPR12 brought improved durability thanks to redesigned pistons, con-rods and crankshaft. Optimization of the inlet/exhaust port lengths and came timing improved the low-to-mid range torque curve. Increased load was managed by a new two- stage differential reduction .with a variable torque limiter, the drive train became more durable. Detailed modifications included relocation of the suspension arms, improved damping and a front /rear anti-roll bar Cancellation system that replaced the hydraulic link, which was prohibited from 2006.

The Dakar rally enjoyed anther first as the start was switched to the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, following the start on December31st, 2005, two stages were organized on Portuguese soil on New Year's Day before a road section to Malaga, Spain, where competitors boarded chartered boats bound for morocco.

The route headed south along the western edge of Sahara to reach Mauritania where five sandy stages Were organized after a one –day rest in Nouakchott, in addition to the dunes of these stages, the latter half of the 2006 rally featured relatively sand-free routes from Mauritania to Senegal Via Lab, guineav .the overall length was 9.043km Of stages.

The 2007 Dakar rally marked Mitsubishi's25th Entry on this event and the team was going all-out for a record –breaking seventh consecutive win and its twelfth in total. The pajero /Montero.

Evolution super production (MPR13) boasted drastic modifications which effectively made it a brand –new car. It featured a completely new integrated multi-tubular frame chassis .the new structure provided a lighter and stiffer body .A lowered fuel tank and carrier for up to four spare wheels /tyres resulted in a lower center of gravity and better load distribution .upgrade cabin comfort was a welcome bonus for the crews. The doors were pushed higher than was the case on its predecessor owing to the under floor fuel tank. The doors pivoted upwards diagonally from the A-pillars, which was the most distinctive visual characteristic of the new pajero/Montero. Aerodynamic work reduced the drag coefficient of the car by approximately 5 %.Extensive detail modifications were made, too. The suspension was upgraded thanks to optimized geometry and revised spring rates and damping characteristics. Engine response was also improved by a lighter valve train and reduced internal friction. The team/driver line ups were the same as the previous year, namely Hiroshi Masouka, Stephane Peterhansel, Luc Alphand and Joan "Nani"Roma. The latter had a new co-driver in Lucas senra Cruz (ESP)
Who replaced the late Henri manage (FRA), died from an accident on the previous year's rally of morocco.

The 29th edition started from Lisbon on January 6th and crossed Spain ,morocco ,Mauritania and Mali before reaching Dakar ,Senegal ,on January 21st,some stages were cancelled before the event began because of security concerns and for the first time in the rally's29 year history , the length was less than 8,000 km (7,9151km)for a total stage Distance of 4,339km.

The 2007 event produced another duel between Volkswagen and Mitsubishi.
The German squad pushed hard from the beginning and, as the event moved in to morocco on January 8th, peterhansel encountered a series of problems including clutch trouble and punctures .then, as competitors entered Mauritania, masuoka was delay by a clutch problem.

Even so, the two pajeros/monteros gradually moved up the leader board and, by the end of the first half of the event, peterhansel, alphandand masuoka wee running 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively. The leader at that time was Giniel De Villiers in the Volkswagen Race Touareg and his team –mate Carlos Sainz was 2 ND No body could have expected the dramatic, reversal in fortunes the occurred in the second half. The longest stage immediately after a rest in Atar, Mauritania, totaled 589km of soft sand .the test was made all the more challenging by the fact it was deemed a marathon stage during which outside servicing was banned until Nema the following day. Sainz became badly stuck in the sand, while De Villiers was halted the next day by a turbocharger problem. Their rival's misfortune let the two pajero /Montero.

Evolutions of peterhansel and Alphand ease into 1st and 2nd positions respectively .An electrical failure eventually forced sainz to retire and the best –placed Volkswagen runner was mark miller (USA), in 6th position ,2hour 14 minutes behind peter Hansel Alphand chased hard but peterhansel defended his position and they finished in that order . Mitsubishi celebrated its 25th Dakar rally with a one –two finish and its seventh consecutive win, taking its total to an unprecedented 12 outright successes.

Sadly, the 2008Dakar Rally will be remembered principally for the last minute cancellation of the rally because of security concerns in Mauritania. On January 4th,the day before competitors were due to drive off the ramp in the Portuguese capital, the tough decision to cancel the years marathon from Lisbon to Dakar based on intelligence from the French government about local instability. Team Repsol Mitsubishi Ralliart had prepared thoroughly for its bid to secure an 8th consecutive Dakar win which would have taken its score to a record 13 successes. Hiroshi, Masuoka, Stephane Peterhansel, Luc Alphand and Joan Nani Roma had all signed up again for the annual African adventure and were as motivated as ever.

Meanwhile, the pajero / Montero Evolution had continued to progress thanks to a number of detail improvements which compensated for the changes required by the latest technical regulations. The diameter of the mandatory air restrictor reduced from 32 to31 mm. The team was also forced to run a five-speed gearbox instead of the six-speed unit used previously and the engineers focused on optimizing the gear rations. At the same time, the drivers had suffered with a certain mount of clutch trouble during the 2007 Dakar and the system had been revised to ensure enhanced durability. Ongoing work on the suspension resulted in improved agility, ride comfort and off-road ability, while the slight loss of power and torque was compensated for by further honing of the cars handling. The combination of all this work ensured that the overall performance package marked yet another step forward instead of standing still as might have been feared.

On February 4th, exactly one month after the Dakars forced cancellation, the staging of the Central Europe Rally in April 2008 was confirmed and, one week later, on February 11th, the organizer revealed their ambitious plans for the 2009 Dakar Rally which, they announced. Would take place on familiar African soil but in South America.
